AICRP on Spices - Training programme for Farmers of SC community in Wayanad

Under the Scheduled Caste SP component of the project, the station has conducted a one day training programme titled, ‘Newer trends in spice production’ for the farmers of SC community in the district on 28.01.2021. 50 farmers were selected from the Ambdekkar Colony of Pulppally for the training programme. Hon. M.P of Wayanad, Sri. Rahul Gandhi has attended the event and inaugurated the distribution of input kits to farmers. The kit contained planting materials of spices such as ginger (var. Rio di Jenerio), Pepper (var. Panniyur 1), Turmeric (var. Shobha) as well as bio inputs like Pseudomonas, Trichoderma and Sampoorna.  In his special address, he said that Wayanad has the potential to cater the demand for spices in the world market. Also he stated that already a proposal has been submitted to establish a dedicated spice park to tap the potential of spice processing and value addition, to the central government. The programme was presided by President of Ambalavayal Gram Panchayath, Smt.Hafsath C.K and, Dr. Ajith Kumar, Associate Director of Research of the station delivered the welcome speech. The technical sessions in the training programme were handled by experts from Indian Institute of Spices Research, Calicut, as well as scientists of the station.
