Smart Farming Yields Bumper Chilli Harvest

A successful chilli harvest was recorded on 12 March 2026 at KCAEFT, Tavanur, under the State Plan Project titled “Network Project on Augmenting Chilli Production through Precision Farming and ICT Techniques.” Implemented jointly at KCAEFT Tavanur, KVK Pattambi, and KVK Thrissur during 2025–26, the project demonstrated the effective integration of IoT-based soil moisture and microclimate monitoring systems in protected cultivation. Grafted chilli plants of the Sierra variety were cultivated in a polyhouse equipped with automated foggers, exhaust fans, drip irrigation, and fertigation systems for precise environmental control. The system showcases the potential of precision agriculture and smart farming technologies in enhancing vegetable production in Kerala.
