Thrivaathira Njattuvela is a land mark day for the farm sector of the state as most of the planting operations commences on the day. Department of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare celebrates the day with organizing Karshaka Sabhas and Njattuvela Chanda’s throughout the State. Major objectives include popularizing the schemes and programmes of department, distribution of quality planting materials to farmers and facilitating local markets through krishi bhavans in all panchayaths to enable farmers to sell their produce.
Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ambalavayal also plays a proactive role in the programme. The station produced quality WCT coconut seedlings (14,000 nos) to be distributed through Krishi bhavans in the district. Njattuvela chanda was formally inaugurated by Dr. K Ajith Kumar, ADR, RARS Ambalavayal by distributing uniquely tagged seedlings to Deputy Director of Agriculture, Wayanad, Smt. Jessy at the station on 22.06.2020.
The programme was attended by Farm in charge of the station, Mrs. Sreerekha MV, Farm Superintendent Mr. TT Jacob, scientific staff of RARS Ambalavayal, Farm staff and farm labourers by following the COVID 19 protocol. Later transplanting of rice seedlings (Gandhakashala) in an area of 1 acre was inaugurated by ADR, RARS Ambalavayal to mark the day.
